Leadership Pathway to Success
We recognise that many young people would like to do something active but are not necessarily interested in actively engaging with competitive sport. We have therefore devised a Leadership Pathway designed to provide alternative opportunities for taking in part in sport and activity from KS1 to KS5.
The Leadership Pathway begins in KS1 with the Bronze Levels which offer the challenge of taking an active role in PE lessons and launches the young person on the road to mentoring other pupils by asking them to become playground buddies. In KS the Silver Levels build on these skills culminating in the young person becoming a Bronze Sports Ambassador for the Reading Schools Sport Partnership.
A gap between Leadership and Volunteering between KS2 and KS3 has already been identified through the PESSYP Surveys which are taken each year to monitor the success of the Partnership. The Leadership Pathway provides a vehicle to bridge that gap with students being asked to take on leadership challenges both within and without the curriculum including the Sports Leaders UK Award in order to gain Gold Level Awards.
In KS4 and KS5 the students are further challenged by providing them with opportunities to gain nationally recognised awards along with learning the skills associated with helping to develop the sporting community within their school through the setting up and/or running of a School Sports Council and also working with community and voluntary groups such as Scouts and Guides in helping to provide clubs and activities beyond the school setting.
We hope that you will join us along the Leadership Pathway by registering your school as part of the scheme – the necessary forms to get you going are on the website. We look forward to receiving many requests for certificates as the year progresses.
